The new program seemed to work, but I have tray “G” for the MG8120 and it will take the tray in and act like it’s printing but not print. Is there a way to tell which tray may be needed? The tray is the correct width, but I’m guessing the reflector points are in the wrong places.

    Hey Paul:

Try repeating step 3a ten times before going on to step 3b.

Also tray types do matter and can result in tray rejection. The tray letter will be stated in the printer properties under page setup and then page size drop down menu.

I have verified it’s supposed to be tray “G”, which is the one I got for a dead printer. After 2 times of selecting EUR and SET, the program closes. I tried a total of 10 times and still have all zeroes for CDR, CDRP and CDRS. The top of the printout does list EUR V1.020 as it had before.

After setting Service mode, and performing the above steps, I turned off the printer, wait a min, then turn it back on. It will feed a blank sheet, then continue with the power on cycle. Disk Label print shows up under the “fun photo print” menu.

Is there a better test program than the Canon CD print utility? I have tried both the utility and printing a picture off a CF card inserted into the printer, and it will roll the disk in, spit it back out and display printing, then show an error: there is no disk tray. set the tray and press OK.

I have an i960 also if you could direct me to the page showing what part needs to be removed/replaced with the “roller kit”

    Thank You.

    Hey,

Can anyone confirm that this will work in MG6120 bought in North America? If not, is there any way to have instructions to enable it in USA? Appreciate all the help, thanks.

Ok just a few more questions before I give this a go..

    1. So I need my PC hooked up via USB to the printer to do this (I’m assuming yes but just want clarification).

    2. This modifies the printer firmware?

2a. If so, I think I read this also voids the warranty? So I just got my printer not even a week ago and if I do this and the printer somehow fails a month from now I can’t get it replaced under warranty? There is no way to flash back?

    3. I have a MG5220… So for sure there is a tray that will work with this? (QuadCore believes it will be Tray G)? On Ebay Tray G does not list to be compatible with the 5220.. I’m guessing maybe just because this mod for this model is new?

    4. Step 1 says to remove black plastic and that it has no pictures and wants them emailed to that address.. I’d be happy to do this if I knew what to take a picture of..

    Thanks!

OK just tried this with my MG5220.. Turned printer off, held down Stop button, then held down power button while continuing to hold down Stop button.. Counted to 5 and then released stop button.. While holding in power button I pressed the stop button twice (the first time the amber light lit up, the second time the green light lit up), I then let go of the power button..

Printer looked like it as powered on normally.. I then tried to “Set” to EUR and got a “Error code: 005″.. :(

Hoping someone may have some pointers.

Yes, my MG5220 has a scanner. I tried these:

    a. Press and hold the ON button.
    b. When the Power light is steady, press the OK button to light up the panel.
    c. Press the Stop button 5 or 6* times.
    d. Release the On button.
    e. When the Power light is steady, the machine is ready.

And when I do steps A & B the panel never lights up..

I just tried this on my new MG6120 & The CDRS say 0140. And the Rom Says EUR 1.30. So i think this did work. However it took me several tries to get the cdrs to change form 0000, more then 10 times but it finally did after i changed it back USA & t hen to EUR.

This worked great on a new MG6120!

Even though this model has a scanner, it requires pressing the Stop button 6 times not 5 in order to enter Service Mode as described in direction set b.

    Tray G is required.

Set up must be done via USB but once accomplished, the printer can be used as a network printer.

Appears to have worked with MG5220 using the first service mode instructions except pressing stop button 6 times (to change light from amber to green). Still need to get a G tray to verify it is working properly. Took a few tries before CD-Labelprint would acknowledge the printer.

Disregard my previous comment about what to do next after getting everything right.

I can confirm that step B works for my MG6120 and have to press the Stop button 6 times to get it in service Mode. When trying to put the printer in service mode – keep the inner cd door closed.
Cd-label print worked for me after i removed HP 1018 and Canon MP560 from the computer and i was successfully able to print on the disc :) Thanks a lot for these instructions. I will soon send you the printouts and cd printed image as a proof to your gmail.

If you buy these printers in Canada they come with the DVD trays included.I bought the MG5220 and it comes with the G tray.Below where “Canon” is printed there is a slot which you push down on and a module which accepts the DVD tray drops into place.

Why did you only press the stop button 2 times when the instructions say to press it 5 times? When I do this on my MG5220 the LCD goes blank and a “found new hardware” wizard pops up in Windows.Maybe yours will behave differently because mine was purchased in Canada so DVD printing has been already enabled.

One quick note about the MG6120. It will not work if you have your printer set up as wifi. You must use the usb cable to run cd-print tool as the printer does not communicate wifi when in service mode. At least that is my experience.

Confirmed working with MG5220 USA version, purchased at Best Buy. This printer uses PRINTER TRAY G, which can be purchased from eBay for about $25.00. Like the above mentioned 5220 posts, I had to hit the Resume button 6 times. When the printer is in service mode, the LCD goes blank.

After going through the directions listed at the top of this post, I uninstalled my current USA driver, went to Canon Europe and downloaded the MP driver for the 5240 printer. Apparently there’s no Europe version labled as 5220. Nontheless the 5240 driver gives you a 5200 family driver which works just fine.

Here is a link to the driver I’m using:

    http://files.canon-europe.com/files/soft39930/software/mg5200swin104ea24.exe

I don’t like Canon’s cd printer software, so I used the free UnderCover XP disc printing software. Simple and free. When printing, make sure you set the CD print program and Print Properties to use PIXMA Tray G for the printout.

The first time you print a disc, it literally clicks and clacks for 5 minutes with a “please wait” sorta message while it’s working away. The next time you print a disc though, it’s pretty much instantly ready to go.

    Thanks again Damn Printer!

    2. Bring printer someplace that has a Windows Desktop.

Here are the exact steps that worked for me in order to use the USA purchased Canon iP4820 as a CD/DVD Printer.

The printer arrived in its box and I unpacked and assembled it, closely following the enclosed, detailed instructions. It worked just fine, as had my iP4000 and iP4200. The iP400 was destroyed in an unfortunate accident and the iP4200′s power supply ceased functioning – much to my disappointment.

I, then, ordered the print tray “G” from an EBay merchant, Aiguangfei, based in Shenzhen, Guangdong, China. The reasonably priced, including shipping, tray arrived surprisingly well protected about twenty days later. I had, already and surprisingly easily, removed the black plastic piece from the printer. Note that the pictures on the web site are perfectly fine, since there has been little change in the physical layout of the external implementation of the CD/DVD print mechanism for Canon.

Here are the exact steps used to successfully print my first iP4820-printed DVD: as follows:

    • The iP4820 is fully installed, plugged-in and working just fine, although turned off.
    • Hold down the resume button (just below the power button) and press and hold down the power button, as well. The power light will come on.
    • Continue to hold both buttons down for at least five seconds, then release only the resume button and press it five times, slowly and affirmatively.
    • Now, release both buttons.
    • When the green power LED lights steadily, the printer is in service mode operation.
    • Start the CD-Print-Tool v7. From the drop down menu, select EUR, then press the SET button. IGNORE the computer’s demand to install drivers for a new device. Carefully listen for the printer to stop its mysterious noises and repeat, being sure to re-select EUR, again. The CD-Print-Tool v7 will probably close, after affirming the operation was accomplished.
    • Start the CD-Print-Tool v7, again, repeating the EUR and SET button, one more time. Listen for the printer to stop making noises. Then, press the CD-Print-Tool v7 PRINT button. My printout showed EUR v 1.020 at the top and CDRS= (0133) at the middle page left.
    • I, then, uninstalled the iP4820 printer driver in the “Printers” section of the OS menu.
    • I powered down the iP4820 and unplugged the USB cable.
    • I inserted the Canon US installation CD into the computer CD/DVD mechanism and proceeded to re-install all the software and drivers on the disk, plugging the printer’s USB cable when prompted. Several minutes later the installation of the software and drivers were completed.
    • I put a blank ink-jet-printable CD/DVD into the “G” tray, opened the Canon CD-Label Print v1.41 software program, loaded an image to print, centered and expanded the image and pressed PRINT. The Canon print driver software warned me not to insert the CD/DVD, of course, while taking what seemed like forever to recalibrate itself to print the disk. It, then, commanded me to pull down the inner door and insert the CD/DVD tray (matching the two arrows on the tray and the printer inner door I had just opened). It instructed me to press the RESUME button, which I did. The iP4820 proceeded to print out a perfectly beautiful DVD. Hooray, I am in bidness, again.

I hope that the installation and usage of your Canon printer goes as successfully and as easily as mine. However, since the Canon cost-to-print is so exorbitant, compared to most other brands, my next step is to replace the, now black and non-translucent cartridges with translucent, see-through, top-fill replacement cartridges. Of course, I will transfer the Canon cartridge chips onto the “new” refillable foam-free cartridges; fill them with quality “bulk” ink and slash my per-print cost absolutely dramatically, waiting patiently for the (hopefully) soon-to-arrive chip re-setter. I, also, strongly suggest the usage of the freeware paint.NET software as a great program to edit and/or make the CD/DVD graphics. It is powerful, easy to us and best of all, FREE! …Note that I am not affiliated, in any way with Canon, paint.NET, the tray supplier, cartridge supplier, bulk ink supplier, or etc…

Hope you guys can help me out. I previously had a ip4200 with CD printing enabled. I am trying to hack my IP4820 per instructions above but to no avail. I am pretty sure I am getting into service mode because the green light flashes for a bit and then goes solid, and I am not getting the error code 6 when running the CD print tool. Every time I print the test page it says CDRS=0000. That’s a no-go, right? The instructions here are a little vague as to whether I am supposed to click the set button 10 times or open the program 10 times and click each time til it closes (after the third time). I tried both ways to no avail. Any help appreciated.

James: Sorry about the vagueness, I was in a hurry to get the new models updated. You were suppose to press the set button and then wait for the OK and then press the set button again. Sometimes the cd-print-tool will crash after the 2 or 3rd time though.

    Try this:

    1. Enter Service Mode
    2. Euro then Set (wait for confirmation)
    3. Print 2 button (Three sheets will print)
    4. Euro then Set (wait for confirmation)
    5. Print 1 button

I have the MG6120, I can get it into EUR mode, however I’m not able to get the CDRS off 0000.

I have tried about everything I could think of, I tried going back to USA mode and back to EUR then running the print tool software about 20 times. I’ve tried going to AUS mode and back to EUR. Nothing I’m doing seems to work.

Is it normal for this printer to take several minutes to switch modes? Like going from copy mode to printing from PC mode it takes forever to get itself situated, I can’t believe this is normal.

    Please Help,

    I keep getting between CDRS=84,86,87.

Then I switch to my mac to try to print using ‘Label Print’
The printer does not flip out when I lower the tray to put the cd tray in. But when I try to print it takes in the tray, makes some noise and then slowly spits out the try and the printer just says processing and does not do anything.

    Am I missing something?

    1. Don’t lower the inner door or put the tray in until the *software* tells you, otherwise you will get an error.

    2. Make sure that mac print driver is up to date. (You didn’t say what version of OSX you were using.)

    3. Verify that it works on your PC laptop first. Macs can be problematic with this feature.

    4. The CDRS numbers sound fine, no need to repeat that part.

Running the Pixma 5220 on Windows.
I have tried several times downloding the Cd-Print Tool v7 but whenever I launch it, the options boxes are greyed out so I can’t select EUR. Anyone else hd this and resolved the issue?

I have an IP4820 and following the steps on parallels (Mac windows side) I only get two pages printed the first time, one says CDR sensor is oi and the other is the color code bars, it shows a CDRS of 0069 and 0068 from two separate tests….. on printing the print 1 it comes up with CDRS 0000.

I am assuming this is failing, but I am not sure why.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

I installed the drivers first so that it would be found on the windows side, I then held down the resume and power buttons for five seconds (one thousand one, one thousand two, etc.) and then released the resume button, then pushed the resume button five times and let go of the power, after blinking for a bit it goes solid green, so I thought I was in service mode but what I got was the results from above.

D.W. Palme: You can stop after getting the CDRS numbers the first time. Two sheets is OK. Print 1 is only for models that are not successful with Print 2. Confirm success or failure by continue the rest of the instructions. Check the printer properties for Printable disc and Tray G in the drop down menu’s after reinstalling the print driver.

Zeeshan: It’s non-functioning, fails it’s own test. If this is a newly purchased printer I would exchange it for another.

marito: error code 006 means no connection. You did put the printer in service mode first right?

    3.Launch the CD-Print-Tool v7

Does anyone know if there is a way to make the Pixma 8120 compatible to the CLI 426 cartridges? Basically the CLI 426 is the Asian version of the CLI 226 and is compatible with the Pixma 8140

I have the MG8120. When I go through the steps, the CD print tool v7 never comes up – there is just a blank screen on the printer. Can you guess what I am doing wrong? Also then to uninstall and reinstall the driver – do I use the original CD that came with the Canon printer? Am I supposed to have it in my computer all along? I use Windows 7.

(Sorry if this isn’t the right place to put this, but I didn’t see any better option.)

I’ve seen comments in this thread and others that say things like “…mine was purchased in Canada so DVD printing has been already enabled” and “…If you buy these printers in Canada they come with the DVD trays included.” I am totally perplexed by this. I’ve checked Canon’s Canada site thoroughly, and nowhere in the specifications of any of the printer models being discussed here is there any mention of CD printing. In other words, it very much seems as though CD printing is disabled/not supported on Canadian-sold models just as it is with USA-sold models. Are they seriously selling printers with CD printing capabilities in Canada and simply not telling anyone???

Becky: The LCD on the printer is NOT used during the process. Just put the printer in service mode and the launch the CD print enabler, follow the rest of the instructions. The driver re-install is the last thing required.

Jonathan: For awhile Canadian printers came with the tray and were enabled. They may have changed their policy.

JF: They are probably the same, the tray may no longer be included. Canon Canada may have changed their policy.

Faisal Khatib: Their are more then likely physical differences or programming differences that keep the carts from being interchangeable.

Has anyone had a problem with the computer not seeing the connection with the printer? I have a new iP4820 and I followed all of the steps on this site to convert it to be able to print on CDs. It printed fine before I started and now I can’t get it to recognize the printer.

ok, I figured that part out. My computer was trying to print to the old printer. Changed all those settings and it’s printing now. So, the problem that I have now is even though I am choosing the Tray G to print from it’s still trying to print from the rear tray. If I put the G tray in the slot it tells me it can’t print with the front cover open.
