The tray letter was known already for months but Canon has thrown up a roadblock to enabling the cd print feature with the newer models.

I bought MP630 and can not print to printable CD media (TDK). The printer does not recognize tray or says there is no media in Tray G.
I’m using MacBook OS X 10.5. I tried the “Five easy steps”.
Can anyone confirm that on Tray G there are two reflectors, but only one has aluminum foil (so basicaly there is one with foil and one “hole”)

Did you buy the MP630 or MP620?

The 630 is not sold in the USA only the 620 which does not include the cd print feature.

I’m from Slovenia, Europe. I have MP630. The Tray G was included. But it is not recognized by printer and rejected.

OS X and CD label print don’t work together very well. There is much better software for OS X for CD printing. Be sure to check out the “Tray Rejection and OS X” for the list.

Canon’s own feature sheet says that MP980 can print onto CD/DVD directly. Has anyone questioned them about why this isn’t enabled when it says it should do it on their website?

Hey bwaddy Waddy. You say you get into service mode. I have asked this in the comments section on another post here somewhere but didn’t get a response.

Is there some program I need to download to ’see’ the service mode? This printer doesn’t have an LCD screen, and when I do that button sequence my computer says it found a new device but can’t install the drivers.

    Hendrik,

Canon MP980 should have a display screen. I don’t know what model you have…let us know and people should be able to assist you.

    bwaddy waddy.

    1. The LCD is not used during the process, so it’s not a factor. You push buttons and printout a sheet which confirms changes have taken place.

    2. The IP4600 USA model is NOT capable of cd-print feature at this time.

Question - I can buy a ip4500 on ebay from Canada that has CD/DVD print enabled. Will I have any issues using US cartridges?

I would be using genuine Canon cartridges but I want to be able to buy them in the US.

    Thanks in advance.

Quick question - SInce I cant do dvd/cd printing on the ip4600 in the US, if I buy a Canadian ip4500 with it enabled, will I be able to buy replacement cartridges in the US? in other words, will US cartridges work in a Canadian printer?

    Thanks.

    Reply-To::TheSpankster:

North America and Europe receive the same printer and the carts are exactly the same. Only models that are truly different are the ones sold in Japan.

Some places in the USA still sell the IP4500:

Also try Google Shopping or eBay.

Sadly no and at this point I really doubt the newer models will be able to print on cd.
