    Awesome. Now I know my canon was worth it. 10200 pages in 34 months.

    Great, this finally shows what the printing cost are for Canon MP830 per page
    Printed 5243 pages in 28 months
    Changed ink cartridges 26 times (15 Full BK, 11 Color PBK+YMC)
    This equal 5243/26 = 202 Pages between ink cartridges change out
    Cost of ink change out is $55 per package
    Cost of printing is $55 / 202 pages * 100ct/$ = 27.2 cent per page
    Printing cost of 27 cent per page is very high and does not even include the cost of paper!!!!
    Our old Lexmark used a lot of ink, but not this much.

    Printer is set to used Duplex printing by default to save on cost of paper. However, I just discovered that duplex printing uses color mode ALL the time even when printing black. Google “Canon MP830 is horrible for duplexing black text”
    The Duplex printing feature will be turned off by default from now on. I hope this finally resolve the excessive ink uses and printer ink cartridge replacement cost . If the ink usage and printing cost does not go down then it will be goodbye Canon MP830.

    I hope this info will benefit a lot of other users as I’ve done a lot of internet searches, but never found a solution that would fix the problem. I’ll try to follow up to report progress.

    Reply-To::OK:

    Try these settings for printed text:

    1. Print Quality = Fast mode
    2. Duplex Printing & Automatic = checked

    It will use the black pigment ink only and the text quality will be much much better. It will also save paper.

    When the Print Quality mode is changed to Normal or High then it will use composite color ink to create black when Auto Duplex Printing is checked. This will waste the color ink and the text quality is not as good.
