Here is a template that allows you to print directly to the cd tray with Adobe Photoshop:

Print Direct Photoshop Template Tray B

Print Direct Photoshop Template Tray F

Print Direct Photoshop Template Tray E

I would recommend using the preview before print feature that is in the printer properties so you can see where the alignment is before it gets sent to the printer.

Don’t have an exact match for the Tray D but Tray B, C and D were all pretty close. Tray F was the one that Canon made some major changes.

Load the Tray B template and make sure to use the “preview before print” in the printer properties, there is a red circle which gives you some idea of where it will print on the Tray D that you have.

I’m new to printing directly onto CD/DVD. Is it normal for the printer to try to print over the hole/transparent bit around the hole? When my dvd was done printing, I noticed I had to wipe the ink off of the tray and the transparent bit. I don’t mind doing that, but I’m wondering if I’m damaging the print head.

You mention transparent bit which I presume means you are not using hub printable media. Hub printable has a 22mm inner hole while the older 43mm media had a transparent center: http://damnprinter.com/24/hub-printable-vs-non-hub-printable.html

The template controls the size of the inner hole, you would need to adjust the template to work with the media that you have.

How close is the ip4600 with its Tray G for DVD/CD’s to the two templates you have posted?? Or is there another Tray G template I’ve missed somewhere?

Reply-To::Dave: It’s a matter of getting it to print inside the red circle which can be easily seen in the “preview before print”.

If the size is different for Tray G the template will need some minor changes which can easily be made inside Photoshop.

    Hi
I’m trying to print from Photoshop to DVD using the supplied tray G on my iP4600, but can’t get the positioning right. Do I need to build a replica of the tray in Photoshop with all the dimensions etc?
Unfortunately I can’t get the red circle up in the “preview before print” perhaps because I’m using a mac.
    Any suggestion very much appreciated.
    Alex

    Reply-To::Alex:

The template was made before Tray G came out and I’m sure Canon made changes to the dimensions and position of things on tray g. The red circle is pretty important in knowing where the printer will try printing to so you may need to set it up on a Windows machine if mac doesn’t have the preview before print and red circle.

What version of OS X are you running?
