I’ve been leary about posting this guide mainly because it is tedious and can be difficult for many less skill users to figure out. The automatic alignment usually gets pretty close to being perfect but that small white edge can be annoying. So if you have the time and patience to make the adjustments manually then here are the steps:

==================
a. The printer should be plugged in but turned off.

b. Hold Stop/Reset button and Power button for 5 seconds.

c. Release Stop/Reset button but continue to hold Power button

d. Press Stop/Reset twice.

e. Release the Power Button

f. Wait for Copy any Light to stop blinking before proceeding. (The light differs depending on the model you have.)

g. press stop/reset twice and then power to print EPROM sheet.

Note: If your model doesn’t have a stop/reset button then use the RESUME button instead.

The alignment numbers are underlined in red. The first number is the horizontal, the second number is vertical.

h. Press stop/reset 9 times (Orange) and then power to select it. (((Pressing stop/reset will alternate between orange or green, green goes left and orange goes right as you face the printer *at least on mine*. ))) Press stop/reset and choose green or orange and then press power, the green light should blink twice to confirm a small change has taken place. Repeat h step two or three times then repeat step g again.

i. Press stop/reset 10 times (Green) and then power to select it. (((Pressing stop/reset will alternate between orange or green, green goes up and orange goes down as you face the printer *at least on mine*. ))) Press stop/reset and choose green or orange and then press power, the green light should blink twice to confirm a small change has taken place. Repeat i step two or three times then repeat step g again.

NOTE: If your alignment is off just a little then only do steps h or i once and then print a sheet to see how much the numbers have changed. Then for the real test you will have to exit Service Mode and go back into regular mode, grab a printable disc and print a test disc. I used old cd’s with sticky paper labels on them, so I didn’t waste my good media.

NOTE 2: If you have the older models IP3000, IP4000, IP5000, IP6000, IP8500 then press the resume or stop/reset button 8 and 9 times instead of 9 and 10.

vLited Vista and Trial Office 2007 cd’s above.

I have tried this on my UK ip4300 as I have a 1mm gap at the bottom of all discs but adjustment as recomended in step (i) canon print adjustment just prints off an “LF PATTERN” printout and no adjustment to cdr position is made.
Thanks for the great site, lots of interesting information, we get the ip4300 complete with cd printing tray, shame its not easier to adjust printing position.

    Thanks any help apreciated.

    JON:

    1. Are you sure you are pressing the resume button 10 times?

    2. Have you tried pressing it 9 times?

    3. Is it printing the LF PATTERN on a plain sheet of paper?

    4. Can you scan/picture of the said LF PATTERN.

After you press print on the ip4300 disc print program a second window opens with the options to print light or dark and also a line up option. any lining up made here will remain until changed,so white lines at edge of disc can be corected once and the settings will remain.
Hope this is of use to readers.

That only works in some situations and doesn’t work with other software. Some users have problems at the hardware level and need the sensors to be offset.

Has anyone tried CD alignment with an MP610? When I do step i and get to the part about “the green light should blink twice”, it blinks several times and then it stays solid and the orange light blinks twice, pauses, blinks twice, pauses, in a loop until I abort. (I’m not sure how to abort, pressing and holding power seems to do it.) Then when I print the EPROM sheet the alignment numbers haven’t changed. The only things different on the page are:

    - Near the top, “P_ON” is incremented. That’s probably OK, it probably just counts how often I turn it on.

    - In the line after the alignment numbers,
    Old: LF=* EJ=* ECFF=0
    New: LF=0 EJ=2 ECFF=1
Again, that may be a side effect of turning the printer on and off. I hope.

    @David Gaudine:

P_ON is power on count. The 2 blinks is a operation code that means no paper or no cd-r on the tray. The EJ and ECFF is the error codes being recorded I believe.

The function will work for the MP610 but the menu may have changed again. In the x000 series it was 7 and 8 then it was changed to 9 and 10 in the x200 series. So maybe it is now 11 and 12 ?

It turns out that the MP610 uses 8 and 9, not 9 and 10. The reason I didn’t notice, since 9 should have done something either way, is that my alignment is only off vertically so I only tried 10.

I tried 11 and 12 as you suggested, but it did unpleasant things; the display had a couple of large orange squares, the power and reset buttons both did nothing but toggle green/orange, and I had to unplug the printer. But no harm done, it seems. I didn’t get around to checking the EPROM print to see if anything changed, I probably should do that.

Since you said that the flashing orange light meant out of paper, I put paper in the rear tray. Indeed, the “10″ function requires paper in the rear tray, not just the cassette (the EPROM sheet works with either.) What printed out is some sort of alignment pattern for different values of EF and LJ. I don’t understand what the pattern is trying to tell me, but I redid the standard printer alignment (in the “maintenace” menu on the computer) and the value of EJ changed from 2 to 0 though that could be coincidence since the original value was “*” after I’d already done the initial printer setup and alignment. I don’t think EJ is an error code, since that wouldn’t explain the alignment pattern, but the printer still works and the centering has changed so I’m happy.

    MP610 = 8 and 9 then….thanks for being the genie pig. :)

On 11 or 12 you triggered a Button and LCD test. It’s to check that the buttons and the LCD work properly. There are more instructions for it but it’s probably not going to be needed by end users.

The LF correction is so that it prints solid colors without a white or black line going through them. You are suppose to use Canon High resolution paper for the test and then picked one, zero or two. This test is not needed for any end users.

I have the same problem for the pixma ip4500, I tried to
    Press stop/reset 9 times (Orange)
    but when I Press stop/reset 10 times (Orange) I get a Green light !
Now I only have a white edge on the outside on one side, for the inside ring it’s ok !
    Any suggestions ?

I’m surprised you’d find the centering different on the outside than on the inside. Did you try more than one original DVD? The one I used for testing was badly centered which affected the result of the test.

Administrator, is there a typo in the instructions? Step h says 9 times (orange) and step i says 10 times (orange), doesn’t it alternate so if 9 times gives orange then 10 gives green like Jim said? I don’t want to experiment now that it’s working so well.

I don’t get it. After messing around with the CD Print Alignment, it doesn’t work anymore at all. Every DVD-R gets rejected… and I tried everything. Re-Installed printer drivers after an EPROM reset didn’t help either. What I did: After the alignment got worse, I advanced that cdrp settings until they were nearly the same as before again. I noticed, though, that contrary to some having 5-digit counters, I have 4-digit counters with a leading + or - in front of the values. So I incremented them until they went over 9999 and then they started at all zeros again. My starting point was CDRP=(+0064, -0149) and right now I’m at (+0052, -0125).

Please help, I don’t know what to do. :(

They are x and y coordinates, you didn’t go back to zero you went way off the grid. You have to reverse what you did.

Those 5 digits would be really helpful right now for you.

    Thanks for your answer :)
But how can I reverse what I did?
I thought it’s only possible to increment the position.
BTW, I’ve read that an EPROM init won’t reset the position.

    Like this:

    1. Enter Service mode.
    2. Press Resume 9 times (Orange) and then power.
    3. Pressing resume now will cycle between orange or green which is left or right. The color should be the opposite of what you did to get it over the 9999. The numbers need to go back all the way down to where you were.

    Thanks, that got it right!

BTW, orange is right and green left here.
You have to press RESUME/CANCEL at least once,
so it’s one time for orange (right) and two times for green (left).
8 times is for the X position, 9 times for the Y position.

Thanks again, now it’s working again and even aligned too. :)

The 4500 uses 8 and 9 times instead of 9 and 10 times. Some models have different menus for some unknown reason.

CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP ME WITH THE ALIGNMENT OF MY DVD TRAY FOR THE CANON PIXMA IP4500
IF HAVE TRIED THE ABOVE BUT IT DOESN’T WORK, IT EVEN GOT WORSE NOW !

    THE OUTER SIZE IS 118
    THE INNER SIZE IS 21

WHAT I NEED TO KNOW IS
1 HOW TO RESET THE PRINTER
2 HOW TO ALIGN IT (I NEED THE RIGHT VALUES)

    THANK YOU

    1. Do the steps for your model: http://damnprinter.com/?p=119

    2. Download CD Label Print: http://www.mediafire.com/?5yky1gqltje

    3. Create a full hub template using 118mm & 21mm: http://damnprinter.com/?p=132

    4. Enjoy!

The steps above is what you should have done. The firmware alignment is only needed in extreme cases. You will now need to print out a ROM sheet and then with a long and tedious process get them back to zero.

The printer can’t be reset but you can reverse what you did:

    1. Enter Service mode
    2. Then press resume once or twice followed by Power.

    Once = service mode printout
    Twice = ROM printout

Your looking for CDRP=(xxxxxx, xxxxxx) if they are really big numbers either positive or negative then your off the mark because they are x and y coordinates. Mine is currently CDRP=(-00273, +00106) which is perfectly aligned for my printer.

    The 4500 uses 8 which is up/down and 9 which is left/right.

    1. Enter Service mode.
    2. Press Resume 9 times (Orange) and then power.
    3. Pressing resume now will cycle between orange or green which is left or right. The color should be the opposite of what you did. The numbers need to go back all the way down to where you were.

    ok

i took all the steps above but the nearest values i could get were CDRP=(-00282, +00102)
these are not correct cause i can still see the white borders in- and outside !
can anyone who has a pixma ip4500 give me the right values so i can print the whole surface of the dvd
i got the values in cd-labelprint for the outer size 118 and the inner size 21

    thanks a lot

Yes, I tried printing using Nero Cover Designer first. It printed half on the disk & half on the plastic tray. I tried printing with the Canon Software, & it leaves about a 1/8 to 1/4 inch white area.
No, I have NOT YET tried to do any of the aligning steps. I only went into service mode to get the print out.

Ok, I got it all working. For a Canon Pixma IP4200, the 8 & 9 button presses work. Your down was my up, I was reading/looking at the disk & tray from the front of the printer like a map with north at the top from where I was sitting. That was wrong, hahahha. I drew a little graphic on some paper that helped me get it correct.
My disks are printing PERFECTLY CENTERED now with the Canon CD Label proggie. The only setting I changed in that was the outer disk size. I set that to the 118mm. I now REALLY like the software, once I got the Canon’s firmware set correctly. I just wonder if they do not sell them in the USA with bad/poor settings on purpose?
Thank you for your website. It was a life-saver. I am not even going to worry about using Nero Labeler or any other proggie now.

Pardon my stupidity but …… I have a Canon MP500 and followed the 5 steps and have my printer successfully printing cd’s and dvd’s now. Well, I got the brilliant idea to try this alignment fix and now have even worse alignment so I need to revert back to 0 but can’t seem to figure it out.

I followed the above directions (I thought) and now have.

    CDRP= (-00907,+01133) CDRS= (037)

Can someone please tell me step by step how to get those numbers back to 0?

    1. Enter Service mode.
    2. Then Press Stop/Reset 9 times (Orange-Alarm) and then power to select horizontal.
    3. The light should now turn green which means + and orange means - since your at -00907 your already to far negative so you want green.
    4. Press Power button and the light should blink twice confirming it changed a little bit.
    5. Press Stop/Reset twice and then power to print a ROM sheet again and the -00907 should be lower like -00893 or some such figure.
    6. Now repeat step 2, 3 and 4 about five to ten times and then press Stop/Reset twice and power to print the ROM sheet again to see how far the numbers have come down.

    PART TWO-the vertical:

    2. Then Press Stop/Reset 10 times (GREEN-COPY) and then power to select vertical.
    3. The light should now be green which means + and orange means - since your at +01133 your already to far positive so you want orange.
    4. Press Power button and the light should blink twice confirming it changed a little bit.
    5. Press resume twice and then power to print a ROM sheet again and the +01133 should be lower like +01021 or some such figure.
    6. Now repeat step 2, 3 and 4 about five to ten times and then press Stop/Reset twice and power to print the rom sheet again to see how far the numbers have come down.

To exit service mode press power several times and it will go back to standard mode.

NERO LABEL PRINT: Canon Pixma Ip3000, 4200, 4800

On the DISC 1 (ONE) Tab, use the drop down menu at the top & select Canon Pixma IP3000 CD Printer.

This works for the 3 above listed printers that I know of for sure, & maybe others. (Tray Type ‘C’).

Now you have all the features of Nero Label Print & direct CD printing!!!

Hope this is of help/interest to others.

You will need to go backwards from the steps that got you there. I have posted it several times above in the comments of others who have also gone a muck with this feature, which is why I was hesitant to add it here.

Because it is a manual override it doesn’t seem to have a way to reset it back to zero.

I don’t think it’s always clear for some what has to be done to fix the numbers.

    This is for ip4500:

Go into service mode in your printer.
Print out and look at your EPROM sheet.

If you want to change the CDRP number on the left, click the Stop/Reset button 8 times then press power, then if you want the number to go up, click to Stop/Reset button once then press power (if you want the number to go down press Stop/Reset twice then power) The power light will flash twice to confirm (every time you want to change the value up or down, you have to repeat the 8 clicks step)

IIf you want to change the CDRP number on the Right, click the Stop/Reset button 9 times then press power, then if you want the number to go up, click to Stop/Reset button twice then press power (if you want the number to go down press Stop/Reset once then power) The power light will flash twice to confirm (every time you want to change the value up or down, you have to repeat the 8 clicks step)

My question is that this process is extremely tedious, and still have a some white edge on the disk, anyone have the perfect number setting for ip4500, to save the aggravation?

    CORRECTION

If you want to change the CDRP number on the left, click the Stop/Reset button 8 times then press power, then if you want the number to go up, click to Stop/Reset button TWICE then press power (if you want the number to go down press Stop/Reset ONCE then power) The power light will flash twice to confirm (every time you want to change the value up or down, you have to repeat the 8 clicks step)

Sorry I was trying to make it less confusing, hope this helps.

It’s a individual printer setting so it will be different on every printer. This only moves the alignment on an x or y scale it won’t make the circle bigger that is done with the software.

PS: Yes it’s very tedious !!!
