Service Call Errors (by LED Blinking in Orange and Green Alternately, or Lit in Orange)

LED alternate blinking
in orange and green

Error [Error code] .
2 times Carriage error [5100] .
3 times Paper feed error [6000] Make sure paper is in the tray and nothing is blocking it.

4 times

Purge unit error [5C00]

.

5 times

ASF (cam) sensor error [5700]

.

6 times

Internal temperature error [5400]

.
7 times Waste ink absorber full [5B00] You have printed a ton of borderless pictures and the overspray has filled the sponge.
8 times Print head temperature rise error [5200] .
9 times EEPROM error [6800] .
11 times Carriage lift mechanism error [5110] .
12 times AP position error [6A00] .
13 times Paper feed position error [6B00] Sometimes it’s something simple like a hunk of paper stuck under the print head, another more radical trick is to turn the printer upside down and shake it. Be careful though you may spill ink or cause damage to the printer.
14 times Paper feed cam sensor error [6B10]0 .
15 times USB Host VBUS over current [9000] .
16 times Valve sensor error [6C00] .
17 times Motor driver error [6D00] .
20 times Other hardware error [6500] .

Continuous alternate blinking

ROM error .
Lights in orange RAM error .
. . .

Most of these are serious problems that need a Canon service person to fix but sometimes these
errors pop-up when something simple is happening like paper stuck under the printhead or a small piece
of tape on the printhead contacts.

    Many many thanks for the straightforward guidance on this excellent website. My brand new Canon MP970 printer started behaving very oddly and the manual was useless, not even mentioning what a error code 5100 was, thus maknig me fear the worst. I wanted to print today and canon staff aren’t available. Thanks to your advice, I managed to solve the horrendously technical feat of removing a small piece of plastic that had fallen into the rear paper tray! (Something I’d never have thought of) . Damn printer indeed - more accurately - damn poor on-line support!

    (6a00) It can be caused by several things:

    1. Printhead is stuck to the docking area either because some old ink has become like glue.
    2. A piece of paper got over there and is jamming it.
    3. The spring is weak and is not pulling the docking area down.
    4. The Purge unit has failed and needs to be replaced.

    Turn the printer off and then slide the printhead to the left and use a flashlight to see if you see any paper stuck around where the two sponges that where sitting below the prinhead or if it just didn’t lower like it should have.

    @Aleksandar:

    1. Enter Service Mode for your Model (Found under *The Five Easy Steps* [p=105])

    2. Press Resume 4 times

    3. Press Power to execute.

    4. Press Power twice to exit Service Mode.

    *Note1: These Instructions are for the IP4200/IP4300 only, other models will differ.

    *Note2: By overriding the Waste ink error you assume risk of ink leaking from the printer if it is turned upside down. DO NOT TURN IT UPSIDE DOWN.

    @CLIVE try this:

    If the device is not functioning properly or to clear memory, reset it.

    1. On the operator panel, press and hold the ON/OFF button for one second. (The display will go blank.)

    Note: It may be necessary to unplug the power cord if pressing the ON/OFF button does not shut off the printer.

    2. Wait approximately ten seconds and then press the ON/OFF button again.

    3. Wait until the device has completed its cycling process before submitting another job request.

    or try this:

    To clear error messages displayed on the LCD or if the printer is not functioning as expected, it may be necessary to simultaneously press Stop/Reset and ON/OFF buttons.

    1. With the printer powered on, press and hold down the Stop/Reset button then press the ON/OFF button.

    2. Once the printer is powered off, hold down Stop/Reset and then press ON/OFF.

    or this:

    Reseat the printhead (printhead may also need replacing)

    The 6500 error can be something that needs repair or complete replacement as well. If your printer is less then 12 months then you can contact Canon Tech support for repair or replacement under warranty.

    For toll-free technical support*, please call 1 (800) 828-4040 during regular business hours (currently Monday-Friday 10:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. EST, excluding holidays).

    The list above are service call errors which usually means they are more serious and often times need to be fixed at a Canon Service Center.

    You can try and clear the error by holding down the power button and waiting for it to turn off then wait 30 seconds and turn it back on. {you might need to unplug it to get it to turn off}

    or

    Hold down the stop/reset and then push the power button while the printer is on. The printer should shut off then wait 30 seconds and then hold the stop/reset again and push the power button and the printer should turn on with the error cleared.

    I am having trouble with my canon ip 4500. It is blinking green and orange alternately 11 times. I understand it is “carriage lift mechanism error” based on service call errors. Please tell me what to do to fix this problem…

    @IAN

    Service call errors are more serious then operator errors and it might need to be seen by a Canon Service Center.

    If you haven’t used the printer in a while the print head can get stuck to the two sponges that it sits on when it’s in the rest position to the right. Open the lid and make sure the print head is able to move around and also using a flashlight inspect the inside for anything that shouldn’t be there like a hunk of paper. There’s a lot of moving parts that can get jammed up.

    Tengo una canon iP4500 y cada 3 impresiones, aparece el mensaje de error “no se puede ejecutar la impresion porque no está instalado el depósito de tinta o no es compatible con esta impresora”.
    Con subir y baja la palanca que ajusta el cabezal o sacando uno por uno los cartuchos y volviéndolos a colocar se soluciona el problema, pero después de un par de impresiones vuelve a aparecer el mismo mensaje. Si alguine puede ayudarme le agardecería.

    @Ulises Ivan

    It sounds like a bad cart or bad print head. Since your using a IP4500 I would guess that it’s still under warranty. Canon usually will send you new carts to replace the bad carts.

    What country are you in ?

    Translation to español:
    Suena como un mán carro o una mala cabeza de impresión. Puesto que su usar un IP4500 yo conjeturaría que it’ todavía s bajo garantía. Canon generalmente le enviará los nuevos carros para substituir los malos carros.

    ¿Qué país está usted adentro?

    Me encuentro en Argetina. Mi impresora está fuera de garantía porque le puse un sistema contínuo de tinta y tube que romperla al costado para sacar las magueras de la bomba de purgado. Por eso quería saber cual era precisamente el error para comprar el cabezal si ese es efectivamente el problema. Temo comprar el cabezal al vicio porque tal vez sea un problema de sensor. Cuando se produce el error, el led amarillo se enciende 4 veces. Desde ya muchas gracias por su respuesta. Saludos
