1. Remove plastic blocking the opening.

Remove the black plastic blocking the pathway.

Remove black plastic pictures

2. Enable CD Print Feature:

I. Make sure the printer is off but is plugged in

II. Hold down [RESUME] (Triangle pointed down) and hold down [POWER] and wait 5 seconds or so.

Release [RESUME] but Continue to hold [POWER]. Double click [RESUME]. then Release [POWER].

Check to see you are in service mode by clicking [RESUME], than [POWER]. This should cause the printer to print a simple diagnostic that’ll list it’s ROM number and list CDR SENSOR=OK in red for the last line.

III. Click the [RESUME] 5 times then click [POWER] . This is the Destination setting option.

IV. Click the [RESUME] 4 times and then [POWER]. This is Europe, CD-R enabled.

Press [RESUME] then [POWER] again.

{{{ This will cause the same test with ROM information but this time: iP4200 EUR V1.04 {in cyan}

V. To confirm the new settings and return to printing mode press [POWER]. ß { Don’t forget otherwise it will default to JAPAN}.

3. Install the driver.

The USA driver will work just fine, it is on the CD that came with your printer. If the driver was already installed because you have been using the printer before you found this wonderful page, you will need to UNINSTALL it and RE-INSTALL it.

4. Install the CD-LabelPrint Software.

Download cd label print

5. Purchase a tray on eBay.

Search ebay for “Canon CD Tray”: http://search.ebay.com/

Yes, generally doing a preview before print

Using CD-Label Print as downloaded from the UK site. It worked on my IP6600D just a few weeks ago.

I’ve already given away the bad disks, but imagine a completely unprinted vertical strip along the right-hand side of the disk, about 1/2″ wide at its widest (i.e. at the center). The left edge of the strip is vertical and the strip extends horizontally to the right edge of the disk.

I will recreate on a sample and send an email in a couple of days.

    Thanks,
    Bob

This may not work each time, but I got at least a one-time workaround:

    1) Change Selected Paper > Create new Paper Size 117mm x 17mm
    2) Open the Printer Settings and change Quality to High

No blank stripe on left… YMMV

Now that I just paid for a tray for my pro9000. It occurred to me that this might not work with a MAC. Can you tell me if the MAC driver is ok. If not can you change my order to the ip42000 tray cause I have a pc I use with that printer.

    Thanks in advance

The MAC driver will work fine with the PRO9000, the only problem with MAC’s had is with Canon CD Label Print. If you use other software like Adobe and a template you will have no problems with it. However if you need to use CD Label Print their is help here from other MAC users: http://damnprinter.com/?p=181

I just setup on a PIXMA Pro9500. Just a few notes on differences in your instructions:
You might want to mention to
    1) wait till the blue light stops flashing before double-clicking the resume button or the 5 clicks on resume.
    2) I neglected to raise the inner print tray when attempting to print the diagnostic sheet. Therefore it wouldn’t print.
    3) I needed to load legal size paper, letter was not the correct size for the diagnostic sheet.

The print out for the 9500 diagnostic sheet has version 1.06 on it. The last line is in black and says:
CALIBRATION = OK OK OK CDR(+00063,-00084)

After changing the setting it now says in black ink:
CALIBRATION = OK OK OK CDR(+00021,-00058)

Hi … I have a Pro9000 … do you really do step 1? I don’t see where there is a black plastic strip to remove.
Do I just put the printer in the front load position and skip removinghte plast ic strip?

Nevermind … I finally found that little extra door with the part you take out. I’d never noticed that extra part you could open.
Makes sense now. Sorry for extra posts. But for others like me … well … Look behind the Canon logo on the front after
you open the paper trays. It folds down and then you will see the area where that plastic piece is that is to be removed.
It will look like the pictures shown. But until you fold that down … you won’t find that and you’re liable to break out some
    other piece you shouldn’t!

Hey All - I’ve been using this on the mac for months with no problems - The LabelPrint software works fine. For media - I would recommend this:

http://www.imation.com/products/printable_discs/aquaguard_printable.html - These discs make the colors very saturated, but the ink holds tight - you can even run a disc under water with no smudging. Good luck

    RE: Pixma iP4200 CD Printing

Firstly, thank you for your website, it has helped me immensely.

My ip4200 is approx 2 yrs old, s/n FCNS 18852
    Tray is type C

With my printer, the steps went as expected with the addition of an additional needed to get the diagnostic print out with the cyan country and the version at the head and pink CDR Sensor = ok at the end.

Mine never changed the EUR from cyan to pink.

CD labelprint would not see the printer until I uninstalled and re installed the drivers.

I continued to have issues with the tray being ejected. I found a reference to the printer not having the ability to fully insert the tray and I found that it would finally print if I gave it a push.
I have good success now in printing, I have found that the surface has to be correct (matte) and that not all media that is white is printable. Thanks again for your website and how much it aided me.

Many thanks for this great website! Just one question: I have gone through the setup for a IP5200 and the final printout shows EUR V1.03 rather than 1.04 as stated in your instructions. Was that just a typo? Or does it mean I screwed up? If so, can I rectify it by going through all the same steps again?

The original config was US V1.03.

    Thanks… /Scott

The number is the firmware version that your printer has, sometimes Canon will issue firmware update to fix minor problems. The 1.04 firmware is not available for download though from Canon.

Have a PixmaPro9000 and went through the steps to get EUR V1.12 from US v. 1.12 but still don’t get the CDR Sensor=OK in the last line. There is no text at the end of the page. I have removed the plastic cover and have ordered the tray E for this model. I tried doing the test with the CD cover open but I get a Resume flashing 6 times. Any ideas? The firmware is more recent if it matters.

I figure someone else had your printer before you and messed it up. You can manually reset the numbers to zero but it is a slow tedious process. Look for CD print alignment on this site for the instructions.

    This worked like a charm!

One change I would make is for step 1 — popping out the plastic. Instead of using a screwdriver and prying it out as shown, I did the following:

    1) left the flip that contains the plastic strip closed
    2) put a mirror underneath it
    3) located the tabs in the mirror (a flashlight may help)
    4) flipped them loose with my finger
    5) opened the flip
    6) removed the plastic strip (which should be loose)

I did it this way so I didn’t risk scratching or breaking the strip should I ever want to replace it.

Thanks for the detailed instructions and pictures!

When I attempt to print on a CD/DVD, with my Pro9000, I get a strip on the right-hand side of my CD (about 1/2 inch) that won’t print. It appears to be a software issue, because it shows up in the Print Preview. Has anyone successfully diagnosed this problem? I have tried margin/set-up option.

Have an ip4200, that does not print on CDr in grayscale (lke only using the black cartridge), on a Mac with the newest driver from Canon Europe website installed (printer utility is v. 7.23.10)

    Can that be fixed?

By the way i followed your detailed instructions about resetting printer to EUR (it should be set to EUR already as i bought it in Berlin) - could never get it to print the first service report even.
Toner cartridges are all full. Prints fine in gray scale, but only on paper.

Thank you for any hints in advance!

The printer comes with two built in profiles designed for printing on cd/dvd media. Both use a photo matte setting which means it uses the four dye color carts and not the pigment black. The way around this is to open the cover in a photo editor and create a gray-scale version. However the printer will still use the 4 dye carts for printing the gray-scale cover. It only usually uses the black pigment ink when it’s printing text on cd/dvd media.
